The beautiful spiritual album, "Mantra" by Margot Reisinger with Existence, is a compilation of multi-religious prayers or mantras put into musical form. The detail that is put into the articulation of the Hebrew, Arabic, Latin, and Sanskrit words makes the listener feel as though they are with the native speaker. The music is ambient and reflects the cultural melodies from which each of the prayers are drawn which keeps the listener on a calming and relaxed level while still varying in tone due to the use of different instruments on each track. "Shiva Shankara" is a wide, echoing track that praises the Hindu God Shiva who dwells high in the peaks of the Himalayas. As the track progresses and the vocal range expands, it's as if the listener is being carried up to meet the divine Shiva himself. "Jesu Domine" is from a Latin hymn dedicated to Christianity and offers sweet and delicate choir like voices complemented by soft and gentle percussion. The spiritual world music of "Mantra" will uplift your body and soul and is an album well worth listening to.

With an ear for a great melody and the storyteller's insight for spinning a compelling yarn, Austin-based Steve Pack puts both and more, on display with his fine debut CD, "Flesh & Bone." Like fellow Texas troubadours Steve Earle or Robert Earl Keen, Pack's work is based in country-rock but, truly, his songs transcend such narrow definition. Tunes like "Baby Hold On" and the rocking title track, "Flesh & Bone," feature catchy, radio-ready choruses that would be at home on multiple radio formats; "Bowman Ridge" a song about Pack's Texas roots, employs delicate cello interludes that defy simple categorization while the opening number, "Like a Dylan," is reminiscent of master songwriter Tom Petty's mid-'80s output, with its balanced, guitar-led fire. Pack's sure sense of purpose is elsewhere aided by a keen attention to detail, reflected in his band's sparkling accompaniment and the evocative arrangements that render the album both contemporary and timeless in scope. "Flesh & Bone" ably describes the organic and deep-rooted spirit of Steve Pack's debut CD, but it's the Texas blood in this terrific CD that will make its mark with listeners.

Their debut album "Origin" is a creative mix of native tribal music merging with some light, Techno synth sounds. The combination of keyboard loops, flute, and tribal drum beats makes for a calming listening experience. Each song is longer than your usual tracks, giving each composition time to unfold and capture the essence of the melodic and interesting melodies. The album opens with "Soul Seeker," a strong track utilizing robust native drums, keyboards, and a piccolo range flute. The last track "Gypsy" also utilizes other instruments like wind chimes as this complements the rhythmical beats. While each musician sounds talented on "Origin," Jim Kinney records an admirably skillful native flute performance. Colorado-based songwriter Kelly Moon McGinnis delivers a one-two punch of blues and rock on his latest effort, "Moontime." The most likeable thing about this album is McGinnis's vocals and the way in which he delivers them. "10,000 Days & Nights" is the impressive new release from Oz Knozz, a polished progressive rock band from Houston, Texas with a radio-ready sound. Their approach is highly melodic and characterized by heavy synthesizer work, hard driving guitars, solid grooves and wonderful lead and harmony vocals. The commercial "You Can't Win" is a great example of their captivating hooks, great vocal harmonies and powerful guitar riffs. The production is very professional throughout, producing a refined, marketable sound. "Hear What I'm Saying" and "Graven Image" are further illustrations of their signature keyboard sounds, multi-layered guitars and full, melodic vocals. Each piece gives the feeling that a story is being told, despite the fact that there are no lyrics. The piano has a mellow but crisp inviting sound that is soothing to the body and mind. The recording quality brings out the brightness and clarity of the upper register keys while the lower keys are deep and rich. "Seven Poems, No. 2," an upbeat piece, presents a flowing chromatic scale on the upper keys, trills and turns, and a tremolo on the bass keys. "Silhouettes: Stravinsky" has a great staccato feel. Contrary motion is heard throughout this lively piece and the dissonance between notes is pleasing to hear. "Silhouettes" is a fantastic album, as each song has its own uniqueness and style with tempos varying from slow and serene to upbeat and happy.

The album sounds fantastic, with vocals at the forefront, as Gandolfi has a very distinct voice that is, in turn, complimented well by the arrangements. "Face In Your Crowd" is the excellent pop rock debut from Texas singer/songwriter Jonathan Adam. Adam (stage name of Jay Arseno) delivers a great vocal performance reminiscent of many of his influences, including Better Than Ezra and Vertical Horizon, and the entire album features outstanding vocal layering and harmonies. His songs have a solid rock foundation with great guitar riffs and solid beats, and Adam fuses it nicely with great pop elements, including electronica keyboards, whistles, flute solos, and Adam's stellar pop vocal performance. The songs themselves are melodic and catchy, heartfelt and real, and have great lyrics about love and life, often in rhyming verse. "Face In Your Crowd" is well-produced and sounds clean and professional with a great balance of vocals and instruments. "15 Minutes" is a fast-paced arrangement with matching frantic electronic drums and lyrics about the proverbial fifteen minutes of fame. "Cinematic Tragedy" has catchy and metaphorical lyrics and excellent musical transitions with electronica elements. "Face In Your Crowd" is truly an impressive debut from Jonathan Adam with its original pop rock arrangements, electronica elements, and powerful vocals. Fans of pop rock with a great modern rock foundation should definitely pick this one up.

"Ride" is the impressive sophomore effort of Texas country rock outfit Kyle Hunt Band. The band plays standard country rock instruments – drum, bass, acoustic and electric guitar. They are a very tight band and create solid arrangements. Kyle Hunt attributes an excellent country vocal reminiscent of Pat Green and Bob Seger that well-fits the arrangements. The resulting songs have a lot of energy and extreme danceability as Hunt sings about riding motorcycles, honky tonks, drinking, and women. "Ride" is well-produced and ready for radio airplay, which it has already received throughout the state of Texas. "Drinkin' Class" is a fun song about blue collar work, going to bars afterwards, the class unity that bars bring and features great lyrics and instrumentation. "Queen of the Honky Tonks" is the first single off of "Ride" and already receiving radio play, it features a great blues rock arrangement, fun lyrics, and a catchy chorus. Overall, "Ride" is a great album for a honky tonk/party atmosphere worthy of radio play on country radio stations throughout the U.S. Fans of country rock and superb male country vocals should check out the Kyle Hunt Band.

"Solo Parts" is an acoustic-driven folk rock album from talented singer/songwriter Chris Holiman. This album is filled with moody songs that reflect the time and place in which he wrote the songs – during a dreary European winter just after his father's death. Through great lyrical imagery and a sorrowful delivery reminiscent of Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Holiman invokes his sadness with each note. Though the arrangements on "Solo Parts" mostly rely on Holiman's acoustic guitar performance, the album also features nice electric solos from Holiman, solid work from Tom Larkins on drums, and great cello and stand-up bass work from Calexico's Joey Burns . Together they have crafted twelve great folk rock tracks that do Holiman's lyrics justice. This album is well-produced and sounds professional and clean. "My Father's Son" is an acoustic tribute song that tells the sad tale of Holiman's strained relationship with his father, concluding, "Sometimes I try to hide it/But I can't deny/I'm my father's son." "Leaving Europe Today" is another sad acoustic track that features Joey Burns' haunting cello progressions in the background. Overall, "Solo Parts" is an impressive solo debut from a well-rounded musician. Fans of moody folk rock and great singer/songwriters, check out Chris Holiman.

"You're Really Bugging Me Now" is an excellent piano blues/country gospel album from Clint Morgan, a talented musician with a great sense of humor. The entire album breathes Morgan's personality by combining secular and non-secular songs, Morgan's takes on gospel classics, and intelligently humorous songs about women and Wal-Mart. The arrangements center around Morgan's intricate piano work true to the blues, early rock & roll, and boogie woogie genres, though they also feature nice beats and some great blues guitar work. Morgan's vocals on the country gospel tracks are reminsicent to the crooning bass vocals of Johnny Cash, while the blues tracks sound like a fusion between Cash and Stevie Ray Vaughn. "You're Really Bugging Me Now" is well-produced, and it sounds polished and ready for extended play. "The Wonder of You" is a blues rock track with a great arrangement featuring organ, piano, guitar solos and some great, humorous lyrics about married life. "Garbage Man" immediately follows the standard gospel track "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and features hilarious lyrics about Morgan's wife running around with the garbage man and the milk man and has an excellent piano solo. "You're Really Bugging Me Now" is a great album from an extremely interesting personality and should be picked up by any piano blues fan.

"Save Yourself" is the impressive debut EP from alternative pop rock / shoegaze outfit Riviera. Riviera advertises themselves as "classy music for classy people," and it's hard to disagree with this concept. This EP is filled with good rock music, with a great pop vocal performance that is at once familiar and distinct and great arrangements that breech typical rock expectations. Riviera's lyrics are strong, poetic, and often direct, offering outlooks on life in general from a down-but-not-out perspective. "Hollywood" opens with the lyrics, "Leave your old life behind, this is your new world," and the listener at once knows the direction and meaning of the song. "Save Yourself" is well-produced, and the vocals and arrangements both sound great. The title track, "Save Yourself," has good lyrics, a lo-fi arrangement, and the simple chorus, "Save yourself/From yourself/Save yourself/From yourself." "Division" features a great arrangement that is layered with a horn section and a fantastic guitar solo, while also supplying strong emotional lyrics and vocals. Riviera has created a promising debut EP that leaves the listener on the edge of their seat in anticipation of a full-length release. If you are a fan of classy alternative pop and shoegaze, pick up this EP.

Audio Buddha's "Alchemystical" is an ambient electronica album from a trio of classically trained musicians. This New Mexico outfit is comprised of vocalist Ishtar, keyboardist Steve Brisk and violinist Nathaniel Mahlberg. Each member is classically trained at their respective instruments and all of them show their immense talents on this collaborative effort. All of the ambient and electronic sounds are created by Brisk's keyboard, often coupled by the strong, classically influenced performances on violin and vocal to create a unique sound. Audio Buddha's songs are intelligent, eclectic and spiritual, aimed at getting themselves and the listener in touch with the divine. The production quality of "Alchemystical" is great, so the album sounds polished, professional and ready to bounce off the walls. "Birth of Dance" opens up the album nicely with waves of ambience, a sudden burst of violin and a beautiful vocal performance that collectively tell you what Audio Buddha is all about. "Mother Goddess" has whispering, summoning vocals and an incredible backing arrangement. "Invitation" is an excellent contemporary Latin jazz album from Jeff Jones and Mosaic. Jones, the leader of the group, is a saxophonist by trade and adds a smooth jazz element to the Latin jazz feel. His backing band, Mosaic, is incredible, tight and each member is held in high esteem in the Latin jazz circuit of the Southwest. Mosaic brings their wonderful talents on piano, flute, bass, and drums. Each member gets their solo opportunity, their time to lead the band and they all shine in their roles. "Invitation" is full of unselfish, improvisational and fun tracks. The underlying Latin feel of each song will give even the most unlikely of characters the urge to dance. The record is polished and crisp, with each note from each instrument sounding firm, compelling, and excellent. "Morning" opens things up with that classic and danceable Latin jazz sound with great piano and flute lines that gives you a feel for the entire album. "Favela" has a great layering of sounds with the Latin-infused piano, drum and flute, pauses a moment for a great drum solo, then picks up right where it left off. With "Invitation," Jeff Jones and Mosaic have created a great collaborative album full of Latin flare and intense solos from every instrument in the same vein of predecessors Tito Puente and Cal Tjader. Any fan of contemporary Latin jazz or, simply, any jazz fan, should add "Invitation" to their collection.

"Son of Malcolm" is a spiritual hip-hop album with reggae undertones from C-Born Nacirfa. This album is driven by the concept and the lyrical content. C-Born speaks a strong word and commands your attention through his poetic lyrics and precise delivery simultaneously reminiscent of Wyclef Jean and Common. The sound is comprised of the relationship between rough sounds and delicate sounds, which befits an album preaching change through action. As a whole, the sound maintains a certain rawness, and the arrangements are full, interesting, and well-balanced. "Son of Malcolm" is well-produced and the recordings are all radio ready. Highlights include "Revolution," a cream-of-the-crop track that incorporates all that is C-Born, with dueling vocals, a simple beat, and some nice melodies. "The Ritual" features a cool string sample, a thick beat, and some great production in the vocal area. "Smokin" features an Asian vibe, some cool piano overlays, and another strong lyrical message. Overall, "Son of Malcolm" is an impressive album with a positive message and great vocal performances and arrangements. If you enjoy revolutionary Afro-hip-hop with strong, poetic writing, give C-Born Nacirfa a listen.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Larry Randall with a GrIndie Award for the CD "The Blessing"

"The Blessing" is a four CD, eighty-six song spiritually inspiring, contemporary jazz gospel box set from Larry Randall. Randall believes that he was called upon to minister the word of God with music, to express the Holy Ghost within him through song in hopes of inspiring the Holy Ghost in his listener. Not surprisingly, all eighty-six songs are filled with religious imagery and spiritual, joyous, Biblical, and even prophetic lyrics. Vocally, Randall is a crooner, and at times sounds similar to Frank Sinatra and Michael Bublé. The arrangements are typically simple and soft, so as not to overshadow Randall's message, but they are great collaborative efforts that hail from a variety of genres, including smooth jazz, big band, gospel, soul, Latin, Hindi, rock & roll, and R&B. The recording quality of "The Blessing" is quite good, and the arrangements and vocals both sound polished and professional. "We Are Home" is a slow smooth jazz number with smooth saxophone solos and lyrics of faith and unity. "Speak of His Joy" is a big band tune you could swear was actually being sung by Sinatra, and has more religious imagery about salvation and grace. "His Name is Jesus" has a great jazz arrangement as Randall pilfers through all of the names for Jesus. "Stand" is a fast-paced song with a Hindi-music-inspired arrangement and a group chant vocal. "Faithful and True" is a gospel song with a great organ-led arrangement and is a conversation between Randall and Jesus. "The Blessing" is a bold box set with great arrangements and ministering lyrics, and is it mere coincidence that it is a Bible-sized effort? Fans of contemporary jazz gospel looking to worship God through song, pick up Larry Randall's box set.

"The Lonestar Blues" is a Texas blues guitar album that features quirky, unique lyrics and jazzy undertones from Tubie Pushe'e. Tubie's voice is a huge part of the sound, delivered with that Texan country twang that shows his personality and forces the listener to lean on every word. The arrangements behind him are skillful and create a relationship between clever lyricist and top-notch musicians you will surely enjoy. The riffs are catchy, and the rhythms are bouncy, with great variance from song to song. The production quality of "The Lonestar Blues" is very good as well, with emphasis placed on truly capturing the rawness of Tubie. Highlights include "Talk to Me Blues," with a driving rhythm, great guitar work, and a lively vocal performance. "Goodbye" touches on the swampy side with a little harmonica, some Tubie twang, and smooth vocals. The title track, "The Lonestar Blues," closes things out nicely with more great guitar work and is as blue as blues can be. With "The Lonestar Blues," Tubie Pushe'e has compiled an album full of unique and enjoyable blues songs. If you enjoy Texas blues with off-the-wall, twangy vocals, give Tubie a listen.

"EarthTones II" is an inspiring easy listening album from a talented group of musicians in Pamela Weng and Friends. Weng and her thirteen friends hail from eight distinct cultures, each member bringing a unique interpretation of music to the project. Collectively, they are a musically sound group with a gratuitous amount of musical chemistry, and they take the listener all around the world with the sounds they create. Musically, Weng and friends are in touch with nature and quite literally create the tones of the earth in the most eclectic of ways. Weng's vocals appear on a couple of tracks, "They Slice The Air – poem," which has a sort of speakeasy feel, and "Garden of Stars," which is a beautiful and inspiring vocal performance. "EarthTones II" is well-produced and does justice to the hard work and enormous amount of creativity that went into the album. "Crescent Moon" introduces the album with a slow alternation between the piano and Native American flute backed by slow waves created by successive taps on a cymbal. "Orion the Hunter" is a great jazz number introduced with a piano solo then turns into an all-out jam with shakers, drums, flute, and guitar. "Outback Ochre" and "Outback" both incorporate the didgeridoo to make the listener one with Australian nature. "EarthTones II" is a great easy listening album with a fascinating blend of cultures and musicians from all around the world. The vocals are passionate and intimate at the same time. Highlights are the lead off track "Travelin' Light," the most carefree of all the tunes. It makes you want to pack a bag and hit the road.
